So Unique,So Local,
So very Traditional

Do you live a Gosoku-no-kutsu Life?

Ishiyama Rikyu Gosoku-no-Kutsu was established in July 2002  in the Amakusa Islands  located on the west coast of Kyushu in southwest Japan.
At first, there were ten individual units called‘Villas A/B'.  In 2005, five more villas were added.
These‘Villas C'are situated higher on the  hillside than Villas A/B, featuring a different view, cuisine, and atmosphere.
In essence, these two sets of villas can be thought of as completely separate from one another.
Every villa has its own private open air bath fed by a natural hot spring,  as well as an indoor bath.
We invite you to select the one that best matches your preferences.

CONCEPT

Amakusa in The Heart of Asia

Amakusa from the the start has been connected to the world with the open sea. The treasures from the outer world created the enriched culture of Amakusa. The Christian livelihood and sadness, the fishermen town landscape, humble settlers, fertile forests and the grand sea. The beginning of  Amakusa`s past and the future. Amakusa's grand history and hallowed atmosphere tourists who visit here can only understand.

Amakusa's peculiar styleonly this region can express.

Christianity became widespread in Amakusa in 1566 with printing machines, holy paintings, hymns, clocks and organs. These are the cultural belongings the Westerners brought to Amakusa. Western culture and Christianity came to Amakusa and created a new culture that is rare. 16th century Amakusa was like that. That age was when Japan and European culture`s gateway was Amakusa. The people who were from the European countries taught Amakusa the new way of thinking. Gosoku-no-Kutsu expresses the long rich history and elegance.

Note:Gosoku-no-Kutsu is waiting for the announcement whenever they will  be designated to the Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki and Amakusa region World Heritage site in July 2018.

Experience fine Japanese culture!

Gosoku-no-Kutsu is located on one of the Amakusa Islands on the west extremity of Kyushu, facing the East China Sea. In this mountain within 8.15 acres of land we created the only 15 different types of villas. This ryokan only uses a huge piece of land to create the luxurious atmosphere.
Gosoku-no-Kutsu is a Japanese-style inn. From days of old, Japanese-style inns, or ryokan, have always been more than mere places for travelers to stay. With a certain subtlety and elegance, they epitomize the beauty and nobility of the Japanese way of life.
Ryokan are therefore very different from ordinary hotel-style accommodations, and staying in a ryokan for one night is an excellent chance to immerse oneself in and experience fine Japanese culture. We believe this difference will become obvious to you when you stay with us.

The philosophy of Gosoku-no-Kutsu's hospitality style comes from the Amakusa family home traditions. Amakusa is a small island in the western part of Kyushu area. We are very grateful that people come visit Amakusa. When a distant relative comes back to visit, we ask fishermen for fish, we put out new futons, we prepare a month back. Our staff believes our customers should enjoy their trip as much as possible. We all try to welcome our precious customers with smiles and enthusiasm.

The Owner's Message

While traveling you may need time alone to ponder around in order to understand your soul.

When I was young, I loved to travel. When I went out for a trip I always told myself the quote above. In order to create this resort “Ishiyama Rikyu Gosoku-no-Kutsu”, I traveled many miles to find a land where there were no man-made buildings which can be seen nearby. The land had to be in a natural atmosphere as much as possible which the customers feel the nature`s power of relaxation. The red burning sun, the clear blue sky, the grand sea, the stars you can see twinkling brightly.
These natural sceneries you have to see with your own eyes. All you can hear are the soothing sounds of the wind, birds chirping and the roaring sea. The sounds that can make you believe in ideas you never thought of in your environment. Gosoku-no-Kutsu is always filled with thoughts of new ideas and new inspirations that can become reality the place thoughts are meant to happen. I am hopeful that the traveler`s have made new inspirations in this resort which can become something wonderful in the future.
